"Unfold your wings; release your spirit; follow your bliss"

“Meditation is a state of consciousness in which a person goes deep within themselves, focusing the mind and eliminating outside influences to produce a state of deep peace and relaxation. Once in this place, you become an observer rather than a participator; observing your thoughts and observing your mind. It is in this space that you want and need for nothing.”

We enjoyed welcoming you all to the first meditation class held at Burton White House. This was an introductory class where we explored the basic understanding of meditation. For anyone that wasn’t able to make it, here is a breakdown of some of the things we covered:

  • We started by exploring “what does meditation mean for you?”
  • We discussed posture and why this is an important part of meditation
  • We talked about the importance of breathing and tried out some practical breathing exercises
  • The group was guided through an Awareness Meditation – using the physical as the focus to bring awareness to the different parts of your body
  • To connect deeper, we then followed an Abundance and Manifesting Meditation
  • We discussed the topic of ‘Grounding’, what this is and why it is so important. We then guided the group through a short grounding meditation

Things to try at home: Practise becoming more aware of your breathing. When are you breathing slowly? When are you breathing quickly? How do you breathe when you are in bed? How do you breathe when you are feeling stressed? Are you holding your breath? Start to form a relationship with your breath- your breath is who you are, without it, you would not be.
